Giancarlo

The first year Giancarlo was bestowed on American baby boys with enough frequency in the United States to mark a position on the graphs was in 1986. For the remainder of the 20th century Giancarlo remained at or near the bottom of the Top 1000 list. It wasn’t until the turn of the 21st century when the name began to show some promise reaching as high as #644 on the graphs in 2008 (in more recent years, however, the name has shown declining usage). Still, Giancarlo is another Italian boy’s name to consider for parents looking for that romantic Latin flavor. Italian names for both girls and boys are going gangbusters in the U.S. right now. Both Giovanni and Leonardo are Top 150 names in America and several more are showing lots of promise: Mario, Luca, Dante, Sergio, Marco, Romeo, Rocco and Orlando to name just a few. Fans of the Miami Marlins are familiar with the name when baseball player and Marlin outfielder Mike Stanton started going by Giancarlo Stanton in 2012 (his actual first birth name). Giancarlo is one of the lesser used of the Italian names currently in U.S. circulation which makes him a more original choice. There’s also the similar sounding Giacomo (pronounced JAH-ko-mo) which is the Italian equivalent of James a name the musician Sting chose for one of his sons in 1995.
