Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Resolved

Resolved is a rare example of a Puritan virtue name. In fact, Resolved White is a name that appeared on the “Mayflower” manifest during its 1620 voyage from England to the New World. Resolved was the five-year-old son of William and Susanna White, and the soon-to-be brother of Peregrine White (the first European baby boy to be born in America). So what’s up with a name like Resolved, anyway? Resolved is a past participle adjective meaning “determined, firmly decided upon”. Apparently William and Susanna were “resolved” in their separatist faith and decided to celebrate this notion when naming their first born son. He probably would have settled with William, Jr. In any case, Resolved White went on to become a prominent citizen of the first colony. He was also so “resolved” in his separatist faith that he even separated from the separatists to start a Second Church.

All About the Baby Name – Resolved

Personality

OF THE BOY NAME RESOLVED

The number one personality is a leader - strong and competitive. They are willing to initiate action and take risks. One personalities work hard toward their endeavors and have the ability to apply their creative and innovative thinking skills with strong determination. They believe in their ability to succeed and are too stubborn to be hindered by obstacles. Ones meet obstacles head-on with such mental vigor and energy that you better step aside. They resent taking orders, so don't try telling them what to do either. This is an intensely active personality, but they are also known as starters rather than finishers. They have a propensity to become bored and will move quickly to the next project if not properly challenged.  They are the ones to think up and put into action new and brilliant ideas, but they are not the ones to stick around and manage them. This personality has an enthusiastic and pioneering spirit. They are distinctly original.

Popularity

OF THE BOY NAME RESOLVED

We’re “resolved” in our opinion that there was likely only one boy ever called Resolved. No, we take that back. Resolved White actually had a son named Resolved, Jr. (but we’re not sure if Resolved #2 carried on the tradition). We like this name for its American historic value. If you dismiss the “lost colony” of Roanoke, Virginia, then Resolved is actually one of the first 100 European names ever in the United States. For that reason alone, we were resolved to share it.
