Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Ayaan

There are two things we know for certain regarding Ayaan. One, it’s an Eastern based name; and two, it’s cross-cultural in terms of usage. Other than that, we’ve had a difficult time verifying the origin and etymological meaning of this name. Here’s what we understand to be true (although we’ve been unable to confirm as factual due to lack of legitimate sources). In Arabic, the name is said to mean “Gift of God”. In Hindu, Ayaan may indicate the path of the sun (rays of the rising sun) or “soaked in the Divine”. In various African languages we’ve heard Ayaan means everything from the center part of one’s soul to “brightness” and “good fortune”. Some say it means “notable” in Persian and “nothingness” in Hebrew. So please use this name at your own risk because we are unsure about the meaning. The potential languages from which is derived (Arabic, Sanskrit, etc) are not easily transliterated into English.

Popularity

OF THE BOY NAME AYAAN

You can hardly blame us for being unable to verify any factual information on this name; it’s only been in circulation in the United States since 2008. It seems to us that Ayaan is a name only used by either Arab-Americans or Indian-Americans, two ethnic groups making up a small percentage of the overall U.S. population. It is for this reason that we highly doubt Ayaan will climb much further up the charts.
