Braelyn

Braelyn(n) is another example of an American invention and therefore has no distinct meaning or cultural background. It was coined in the 21st century (2006) most likely inspired by the pleasant sound created through the combination of syllables. Also, the “-lyn(n)” suffix is quite trendy (Brooklyn, Katelyn, Jocelyn, Madelyn, etc). It is possible (although doubtful) that Braelyn was inspired by a modern Welsh female name Briallen which comes from the Celtic “briallu” meaning "primrose". The primrose garden plants and wildflowers are among the first to bloom heralding the coming of spring (from the Latin “primus” meaning “first”). The primrose therefore symbolizes courage and bravery because it takes a fair amount of gumption to open in pre-spring chilly environments. The ancient Celts also believed the primrose signified the entrance to a fairie world. Some people also argue that Braelyn comes from the Gaelic-Scottish “brae” meaning “hill” and the Welsh “llyn” meaning “lake”, so some parents might conjure up a lake surrounded by hills – perhaps they live in Lake Tahoe, for instance, which would make such a name meaningful to them. The girl’s name Braelyn is mainly used in the United States and occasionally in Australia.
