Caydence

Caydence is a fanciful Americanized respelling of Cadence. Cadence is an English vocabulary word signifying the rhythmic flow of a sequence of sounds. In Vulgar Latin the word “cadentia” meant “a falling” and the Old Italian “cadenza” stood for the conclusion of movement in music. The Harvard Concise Dictionary of Music and Musicians defines a cadence as: “a melodic or harmonic configuration that creates a sense of repose or resolution [finality or pause]." Such definitions are apropos considering a “cadence” gives the music-listener a sense of “falling” as the Latin origin suggests. Cadences are categorized as either weak or strong depending on the force of the finality it imbues and the sense of closure it creates. As a female given name, Cadence is a very recent coinage (new to the 21st century) and mostly popular in the United States. Once Cadence gained a following as a fresh, new baby girl’s name, then respellings started to emerge (a typical American trend). Now we have Kaydence, Kadence and Caydence. Pretty soon we’ll have Caidence and Caedence. Americans are so predictable that way.
