Caylee

The American female name Kaylee first appeared on the female naming charts in 1984 and very quickly caught on in popularity. It became a Top 100 favorite name for girls by 1998 and thereafter, several new modifications of the name began to emerge. This is a very common naming style for American parents; that is, to take a highly popular name and alter the spelling in some phonically cutesy way. Caylee and her sisters are an extreme example of this practice. After Kaylee along came Kayleigh, Kaleigh, Kailey and Kaylie. Followed by Kailee, Kayley and Caleigh. Caylee is one of the newer spelling options appearing on the charts for the first time in 2008. Names such as Kaylee which have been modified so heavily over time often experience some form of backlash among the general population (that is to say, they inspire a little eye-rolling). Still, there’s no denying the attraction of this name for many American parents (hence it’s trendiness, overuse and enthusiastic respellings). Caylee is a cute name (very similar to Hailey and her many variations). The “-lee” suffix tends to come across as youthful and cutesy; while the “-ley” and “-lie” feel more traditional. Flashy and fanciful parents are most likely drawn to the “-leigh” suffix. It just comes down to a matter of preference. And in this case, if you like this particular name, you certainly have no shortage of choices!!
