Emmalyn

For the most part, Emmalyn (like Emmalee) is a newly coined name off the ϋber-popular Emma. Basically, it’s the combination of Emma with the ever-common “-lyn” suffix. Emma developed from Ermintrude, a medieval female personal name, from the Germanic element meaning “universal, whole”. The name was originally popularized as Hemma in England in the later Middle Ages before being truncated to Emma in the 19th century. Emlyn is also an Old Welsh masculine name meaning “around the valley”. Lynn is likewise a Welsh name, from “llyn” meaning “lake”. We could say Emmalyn mean’s “Emma’s Lake” or “Universal Lake” but that’s a stretch. Furthermore, Emmeline was a medieval female name introduced by the French from the Old Germanic Amelina, from the element “amal” meaning “to work, industrious” (which is where we get the name Amelia). However, Emmalyn is really just a modern-day invention used mostly in the United States. It has more to do with the success of Emma as a girl’s name today.
