Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Jaida

Jaida is a more fanciful Americanized respelling of Jada which is a Hebrew name derived from the word “yadha” meaning “he knows, the knowing one”. Jada is borne in the Bible as a male name in the first book of Chronicles in the Old Testament mentioned briefly as the son of Onam. However, Jada is widely held as a feminine personal name, so it may have also developed as a Latinate respelling of the gemstone Jade, thought to protect against intestinal or stomach complaints (the Spanish origin of the name Jade translates to “stone of the bowels”). The ancient stone jade is also known for its properties in attracting love and/or money. We also wonder if the original Hebrew word (yadha) gave birth to the Seinfeld lingo “yadda, yadda, yadda” roughly translating into “you know the rest” – since the original meaning is one of knowledge. In any case, Jada has only come into use during the latter half of the 20th century and Jaida and Jayda emerged later as alternate spellings (primarily in the United States).

Personality

OF THE GIRL NAME JAIDA

The number Seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with their spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average joe. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious and spiritual ideas in an effort to find "real truth".  Sevens are wise, but often exude mystery as if they are tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly seeking to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. This makes them quite artistic and poetic, but they are also keen observers with high intellect - so they are equally scientific-minded. Sevens are charitable and care deeply about the human condition.

Popularity

OF THE GIRL NAME JAIDA

Jaida suddenly appeared on the American female naming charts in 1998. This was clearly in response to the increasing popularity of Jada. As is often the case, when a name starts to see impressive growth on the charts, American parents start to play around with the spellings in an effort to differentiate their kid from the scores of others. Although in our opinion, this serves little purpose other than to cause spelling confusion (which some people don’t mind) since the names are pronounced exactly the same. We have to agree that the Jaida spelling looks rather pretty and dresses up the name a bit. It’s also a short two-syllable name so the spelling change isn’t all that egregious or difficult to remember. It’s a relatively simple change that shouldn’t cause too much confusion later in the girl’s life. In fact, among Jada, Jayda and Jaida, Jaida is probably the most feminine of all the spellings. We also love the etymology of this name: the knowledgeable one. By naming your daughter Jada/Jaida, you’re in some way asking the universe for an intelligent child. That’s a noble aspiration.
