Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Kaden

Kaden is another American spelling variation of the first name Caden which was derived from a Gaelic surname, Mac Cadáin (meaning son of Cadáin). The Gaelic word “cadáin” possibly means ‘battler’ but the etymology is up for debate. It’s also thought the name is derived from Adam, the first man, which would give the meaning ‘ground, earth.’ The MacCadáin clan was responsible for maintaining and managing the church land in their Scottish localities, a position they held from late medieval times into the early modern era (which would lend the name nicely toward Adam’s meaning). Caden is a very modern given name, originating only this century, and distinct to the United States. Kaden came along shortly thereafter as another spelling variation.

Personality

OF THE BOY NAME KADEN

The number Eight personality has everything to do with power, wealth and abundance. Somehow, this personality has been blessed on the material plane, but their authoritative and problem-solving traits provide evidence that their good fortunes are not just the luck of the lottery. They are well earned. This is the personality of CEOs and high-ranking military personnel. Eights are intensely active, hard-driving individuals. Success is only meaningful to them after a job well-done.  They are remarkable in their ability to see the larger picture right down to the smallest details, and organize a strategy around success. They then have the ability to direct a group around them toward any goal, and realize individual potential to get the most out of their team.

Popularity

OF THE BOY NAME KADEN

Kaden enters the American popularity charts for the first time in the history of name-tracking in 1993, one year after Caden. Both names jump up the graphs pretty quickly, shadowing each other closely, practically neck-and-neck, for the past nearly 20 years. The more phonetic spelling Kaden seems to be ahead right now, although both variations are on the decline in recent years. Given all the creative spelling variations of this name (Kadin, Kadyn, Kaeden, Kaiden, Caiden, Cade and Kade) perhaps American parents are finally tiring of it. The overuse of popular names such as Kaden (Aiden, Jayden, Hayden, Brayden) is starting to backfire as kindergarten teachers across America rebel (how many spellings do you expect them to keep track of, after all?). Kaden is a solid name, but it lacks pizzazz.
