Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Kasey

Kasey is an Americanized version of Casey derived from an Old Irish personal name “Cathasach” which is Gaelic for “vigilant” (particularly when at war). It has been quietly and commonly used in Ireland for centuries, and then jumped the Irish borders to the United States thanks to an early 20th century melody called “The Ballad of Casey Jones” which told the story of a brave locomotive engineer’s collision with another freight train (sacrificing his own life in the interest of saving another). This well-known ballad raised Casey Jones to levels of folk hero status across America, and his name went along for the train ride. A lot of Gaelic names that start with a C often get anglicized (or Americanized) with a K; so we weren’t surprised to see some American parents spell Casey like Kasey. Both forms of this name have been used on both genders in the United States, but more recently Kasey with a “K” has become more exclusively female. Casey is more popular for boys than for girls but is used freely on either gender.

All About the Baby Name – Kasey

Personality

OF THE GIRL NAME KASEY

The number Seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with their spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average joe. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious and spiritual ideas in an effort to find "real truth".  Sevens are wise, but often exude mystery as if they are tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly seeking to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. This makes them quite artistic and poetic, but they are also keen observers with high intellect - so they are equally scientific-minded. Sevens are charitable and care deeply about the human condition.

Popularity

OF THE GIRL NAME KASEY

Kasey has held a place on the female naming charts since 1970. In terms of usage for baby boys, Kasey was on the masculine charts between 1971 and 2009 (it just fell off the Top 1000 list for baby boys and is now rarely used). Kasey for girls has also seen her popularity come and go. The name reached its peak success on the charts at position #201 in 1988. Since the turn of the 21st century, however, usage of this name has dropped like rocks. Apparently, parents are no longer keeping “vigilance” on this darling, informal name and she’s being quickly forgotten. The spelling of Casey isn’t all that popular for baby girls anymore, either – but it still does pretty well for boys.
