Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Landyn

Landyn is an Americanized respelling of the English surname Landon which originated as a place or location name. Landon comes from the Olde English words “lang” (long) and “dūn” (hill) which apparently signifies a ‘ridge’. This surname dates back to the early 11th century (pre-dating the Domesday Book) and was recorded as Langadune. Although the surname is English in origin, as a given name, Landon is primarily used in North America (i.e., Canada and America). The mutated respellings of this name (i.e., Landen, Landyn and Landin) are all distinct to the United States. All other English speaking nations prefer traditional (or accurate) spellings of names.

The number Seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with their spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average joe. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious and spiritual ideas in an effort to find "real truth".  Sevens are wise, but often exude mystery as if they are tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly seeking to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. This makes them quite artistic and poetic, but they are also keen observers with high intellect - so they are equally scientific-minded. Popularity

OF THE BOY NAME LANDYN

Landyn is currently the third most popular spelling variation of the traditional Anglo-Saxon surname Landon. Altogether, the Landon names are given to nearly 13,000 baby boys per year (that’s quite a bit, relatively speaking). The conventional spelling of Landon is given to more than 80% of those babies, while Landyn is given to about 6%. Landyn has only been around on the charts since 2004 (while Landon dates back over 100 years). As the name Landon became popular, American parents started to make-up new spellings of the name. First Landen and then Landyn. We dare say that the “-dyn” suffix gives the name a much more feminine feel (we were actually surprised to see it was a boy’s name). Still, Landyn is increasing in popularity year over year despite its softer appearance. Like London, Landyn is a strong, modern sounding name. It’s definitely part of the “Last Names First” trend as well as the American trend of parents making up new spellings of popular names. It’s for these ‘trendy’ reasons that we doubt Landyn will endure beyond these fleeting fashions of the day. We’ll have to wait and see.
