Mohammad

Mohammad is an Arabic name; another transcription of Muhammad which means “praiseworthy” and “possessor of fine qualities”. Mohammad is also considered the Iranian/Persian form of Muhammad. As most people are aware, Muḥammad ibn-‘Abd-Allāh ibn-‘Abd-al-Muttalib was a 7th century prophet and founder of the Islamic religion – hence the popularity of this name among Muslims. Another famous bearer was Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, a 9th-century Persian mathematician, scientist, and inventor of algebra. We obviously know that Muhammad is an ϋber-popular name in the Middle East and Northern Africa; however, the spelling and usage of Mohammad has enjoyed some success among Arabic and Muslim people living in Europe (specifically in England and the Netherlands). It appears that European Muslims prefer the Mohamed, Mohammed and Mohammad spellings the most (swapping the “u” for an “o”). Compared to the United States, many European countries have a much higher concentration of Muslims per capita.
