Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Nasir

Nāṣir is a name of Arabic origin and means “helper, supporter”. Although Nasir is not as popular in the Western World as it is in the Arabic speaking world, it has achieved cross-over appeal within the African-American community in the United States. This was influenced by the rising fame of an American rapper from New York named Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones, better known simply as “Nas”. Nas first came onto the American hip-hop music scene in 1994 and has since released multiple top selling, critically acclaimed and highly regarded albums which has since thrust him into international fame. Nas is also notorious for his public feud with Jay-Z, a “warfare of words” which lasted for nearly 10 years before the two rappers finally reconciled. In any case, Nasir is responsible for the increased popularity of his name in the United States, although it is still widely used within Arab nations.

The number Seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with their spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average joe. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious and spiritual ideas in an effort to find "real truth".  Sevens are wise, but often exude mystery as if they are tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly seeking to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. Popularity

OF THE BOY NAME NASIR

The name Nasir first appeared on the American male naming charts in 1996 (right as Nas’s rap career was taking off). In the first 10 years, the name saw impressive jumps in usage as the rapper became more and more famous. However, this sudden and abrupt pop-culture influence is now clearly on the wane; it’s been dropping in popularity since 2006. Today the name is used pretty sparingly at best and the decline in usage in the past couple years has been more dramatic. Nevertheless, Nasir is both cool and confident and still a great name choice. We do like the nickname “Nas” – it has a friendly, relaxed tone to it. The Arabic etymology of the name (i.e., helper) also brings a certain kindness to Nasir. This is further supported by the numerology connection to Seven – people who tend to be charitable and caring (as well as artistic and creative)!
