Etymology & Historical Origin of the Baby Name Nathalie

Nathalie is the French, German and Scandinavian form of Natalie (although the French and Germans also use Natalie without the “h”). Nathalie is born from the Latin “natalis” which means “birthday”, but more specifically the Latin Natalia stands for Christ’s birthday or Christmas Day (“natale domini”). This lovely name has Latin origins, but it has been widely adopted across the Western world and particularly in Eastern Europe. Natalya and Natasha are the Russian versions; Nathalie and Natalie are used among the French and Germans. The Italians and Spanish typically use Natalia. Natalie is the most common North American spelling of this Christmas baby, but Americans are also prone to use Nataly and Natalee. Historically, the “Natalie” names were common among babies born on or near Christmas Day. A 4th century saint, Adrian of Nicomedia, and his wife Natalia are mainly recognized by the Eastern Orthodox Church which is why Natalya, Natasha, Natalia, etc. were first popularized by Eastern Christians (Russians, Czechs, Hungarians, Croatians, etc) before spreading westward. Today the spelling of Nathalie is most popular in the countries of Sweden, Norway and Germany.

The number Seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with their spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average joe. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious and spiritual ideas in an effort to find "real truth".  Sevens are wise, but often exude mystery as if they are tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly seeking to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. This makes them quite artistic and poetic, but they are also keen observers with high intellect - so they are equally scientific-minded. Popularity

OF THE GIRL NAME NATHALIE

Nathalie is a name that existed at the beginning and the end of the 20th century but pretty much disappeared from usage all in between. In the 19 teens and 20s Nathalie was probably a common spelling of German and/or Scandinavian immigrants. In fact, actress Tippi Hedren (b. 1930) of Hitchcock movie fame was born Nathalie Kay Hedren to parents of Swedish, German and Norwegian descent. This particular spelling of Natalie fell off the charts in 1935 and did not reappear until 1983. Nathalie’s sudden reappearance no longer had anything to do with immigration. Rather, the name Natalie was fast becoming a “star” female name on the U.S. charts so this time American parents were just trying to find alternate spellings as a ways of differentiating their own little Natalies. Seems American parents are now taking that added “h” quite seriously because some are pronouncing the name like “na-THA-lee” (despite the fact that the “h” is really silent). Or else you prefer the lisp-sound? Natalie remains a Top 15 name choice for baby girls in America and Natalia does quite well, too. Nathalie is a spelling given to about 3% of the baby Natalies being born each year.
