The term “Sloane Ranger” was coined in the 1980s to signify the young, professional, upper-class women who lived near the Square and styled themselves after the fashionable Diana, Princess of Wales. As a female given name, Sloane has primarily been used in the United States but occasionally shows up in Canada and Australia, as well.
