Nadya Suleman became known as “The Octomom†after sparking a national media frenzy in 2009 when she gave birth to a full set of octuplets (eight babies). Public opinion hotly turned against her when it was revealed that Nadya was a single-mother with six other babies at home, all of which were conceived via IVF (in-vitro fertilization). The story also shined a bright spotlight on the assisted reproduction industry which irresponsibly allowed this to happen. Americans were generally turned off by Nadya’s reckless baby-making when she was unable to support herself without public assistance. This woman didn’t need eight more babies; she needed therapy.
