A first time father at the age of sixty-three, this is a man ready for parenting. A serial godfather to no less than ten children (including John Lennon’s son Sean, two of the Beckham children, not to mention Elizabeth Hurley’s son), Elton was ready to put his true parenting skills to test on Christmas Day 2010 when his son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born to a surrogate mother. The other father, David Furnish, and Elton John were married in a civil-service ceremony five years earlier (almost to the day) in 2005. The two fathers had been in a same-sex partnership for 17 years prior to the birth of their son – much longer than most celebrity couples we’ve seen, that’s for sure! Zachary Jackson is a darling name, and Levon is a must-have. Anyone familiar with the tunes of Elton knows that “Levon was born on Christmas Day when the New York Times said God was dead.†Quite symbolic. But who, pray tell, does the honors of god-parenting go to for this child of the ϋber-godparent? None other than Elton John’s kindred spirit Lady Gaga.
