Tina Fey

Tina Fey

Funny girl Tina Fey and her long time husband composer and TV producer Jeff Richmond have two daughters together. The first is named Alice Zenobia Richmond (b. 2005) and the second is Penelope Athena Richmond (b. 2011). Alice is a solid choice, but we had to wonder about Zenobia? There are a couple theories. First, Zenobia was the name of a 3rd century queen of a Syrian empire who led a famous revolt against the Roman Empire (sounds like the kind of ballsy lady Ms. Fey would admire). We doubt it’s in reference to Zenobia (Zeena), a character in Edith Wharton’s 1911 novel “Ethan Frome” because she’s the somewhat shrewish, bossy, grumpy wife of Ethan Frome. So we’re assuming Tina got her daughter’s middle name from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1952 novel “The Blithedale Romance” wherein Zenobia is a beautiful and wealthy, if a bit prideful, character admired by all. Obviously Tina was going with a Greek mythology theme when naming her second child Penelope Athena.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry

Seemingly unlucky in love, one was left wondering when, if ever, Halle Berry would find a good man and have his baby. Everything seemed to be coming up roses on March 16, 2008 when her daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry was born (Berry was almost 44 years old). The baby’s father is gorgeous French-Canadian supermodel Gabriel Aubry. The couple has since split, and occasionally their nasty custody battle surfaces in the news (which is unfortunate). It’s not clear why they chose the name Nahla and no one can confirm for us definitively the meaning of Nahla. It’s been theorized that the name means everything from “drink of water” in Arabic to “gift” in Swahili. We do know that Ariela is the female equivalent of the Hebrew name Ariel meaning “lion of God” or “hero”.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman

One day she’s a young A-List actress bouncing between relationships. The next thing you know, she’s hooking-up with her movie Black Swan’s choreographer (who, by the way, was living with another woman at the time), then she’s winning an Oscar, and the next thing you know, she’s with baby and then married (yes, in that order). That was quick. Aleph Portman-Millepied was born in 2011. The name signifies the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet as well as the number 1. What she going to name her next kid, Number Two?

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff

One of the newest Hollywood babies was born to 24-year-old Hilary Duff on March 20, 2012. She named him Luca Cruz (father is retired NHL player Mike Comrie). It’s not clear how the parents chose the name; it’s kind of random. Luca Cruz is basically an Italian Spanish name combination. In any case, it’s hard to believe little Lizzie McGuire is a mom!

Ali Landry

Ali Landry

After annulling her brief marriage to Mario Lopez, Ali Landry (of the Doritos commercial fame) went onto marry Mexican film director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde in 2006. baby girl Estela Ines Monteverde followed in 2007 and in October 2011, the couple announced the birth of a son, Marcelo Alejandro. Pretty standard Spanish names. Nothing kooky.

Brangelina

Brangelina

Hands-down, the most popular kids in Hollywood are the children of Brangelina, or Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Jolie-Pitt brood consists of three adopted children and three biological children. Angelina adopted seven month old Cambodian-born Maddox Chivan in 2002 as a single parent. In 2005, Jolie and Pitt together adopted six-month old Zahara Marley from Ethiopia (Pitt then officially adopted big brother Maddox). Not content to stop there, the couple found three year old Pax Thien in Vietnam (2007). Meanwhile, their first biological daughter Shiloh Nouvel was born in Namibia in May 2006 to much fanfare (imagine when combined what such great DNA is likely to produce!). Lastly, in July 2008, the latest Jolie-Pitt’s arrived, twins called Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline. According to one report, the first images of the twins were sold for an unprecedented $14 million.

Tori Spelling

Tori Spelling

I think the question should be, when is this girl NOT pregnant?! The heiress to the Spelling television fortune, Tori married little known actor Dean McDermott in 2006 (after they divorced their respective first spouses, that is). The couple has four children. Son Liam Aaron (b. 2007) was followed by sisters Stella Doreen (2008) and Hattie Margaret (b. 2011). Precious #4 came along on August 30, 2012. They named him Finn Davey McDermott. Four darling name choices for the sweetheart celebrity – hip, cute, modern and cool.

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner

Married to Ben Affleck since 2005, this “Bennifer” has three children. Their first daughter was born less than nine months following their nuptials (you know what that means) on December 1, 2005. They named her Violet Anne. Daughter #2 arrived on January 6, 2009 and was dubbed Seraphina Rose Elizabeth. The couple rounded out their family with a son this year on February 27, 2012. His name? Samuel Garner. Leave it to the classy couple to choose fashionable yet traditional names. Seraphina is especially unique and it means “fiery one”. Cute, huh?

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone

Um, nope. That’s not a typo you’re looking at. That’s the name of Alicia Silverstone’s son who was born in May 2011. Bear Blu. We have to hand it to her and musician husband Christopher Jarecki for their creativity; this roaming Bear should fit in perfectly in Los Angeles. Why the weird name? Silverstone is a well-known environmentalist and animal rights activist so I can see why she was drawn to an animal name (which apparently her mother-in-law suggested). Alicia has been quoted as saying that most people think the name is cute. Well, duuuhhh. You think people are going to tell you to your face that your kid’s name is lame? We also have never met a Bear that needed his food pre-chewed, but that’s a different matter altogether.
