St. Aidan the Apostle of Northumbria (7th Century)

Saint Aidan was born an Irishman in the 7th century who eventually became a Christian monk on the island of Iona off the shores of Scotland. In his time, the Roman Empire had already spread Christianity to northern Europe, but the English were still predominately pagan worshipers due to the Anglo-Saxon invasions. Saint Alban is a venerated Irish saint credited with spreading Christianity throughout Britain. He was even considered a possible patron saint of the United Kingdom.
